The subREAL Exhibition - Serving Art Again (Călin Dan & Iosif Kiraly), curated by Ami Barak
Open to the public on September 18, 2019, the exhibition should mark a turning point in the gallery's program, as well as in the resurgence of the group, absent from the Romanian and international scene in recent years but maintaining its unaltered reputation. In the meantime, subREAL has become a key historical reference, especially in a context where the changes of the '90s take on an entirely new significance. It is a true rebirth.
The current exhibition focuses primarily on significant moments from their previous creations but also presents a recent work: Grateful - Ungrateful, an adaptation to the context of Timisoara of one of their latest productions. This explains the completion of this emblematic title, Serving Art (Again).
Founded in 1990 by Călin Dan and Dan Mihălțianu, to whom Iosif Király joined in 1991, the subREAL group operated, starting from 1993, as a duo after Dan Mihălțianu's departure. Marked by post-conceptual attitudes, governed by irony and self-pity, subREAL explored for almost 15 years the local and institutional artistic context.
