"Records Beyond Vision," a solo exhibition by Romanian artist Decebal Scriba, showcasing a remarkable collection of works from various stages of his career.
Records Beyond Vision, which brings together works from the past and present, is a monographic continuation of the collaboration with our gallery. We presented part of Decebal Scriba's works in the group exhibition In & Out in 2022.
Decebal Scriba, born in 1944, was in the early 1970s one of the most prominent figures and a kingpin of the Romanian avant-garde. His experiments are now an integral part of the history of those key years. During that decade, Decebal produced a coherent and elaborate body of work, focusing on a conceptual and performative perspective addressing issues of formal and textual language, analysis of the system of spatial representation, attitudes and symbolic forms, as well as 'actions', which emerged as an autonomous genre.
The hardening of the regime and an eminently dogmatic environment put an end to independent artistic assertions. Having become anonymous because of its political dimension, his work created during the communist dictatorship has been reconsidered in recent years on the European art scene. It was only after the change of regime that the artist was able to create in a climate in tune with the present, and this exhibition also presents a second youth with an impetus as strong as that of his beginnings.
Decebal Scriba has lived in Fontainebleau-Avon, France since 1991 and works in a variety of media, including photography, installation, performance and video that also integrates an interest in drawing, perpetuating philosophical reflections infused with spirituality on the relationship to the world and to existence.
The exhibition is made in collaboration with Triade Foundation and is supported by Banca Transilvania.
