Overview
Jecza Gallery Bucharest 16:00

Join us for a guided tour of Laboratoriya, Andreea Ilie’s first solo exhibition with Jecza Gallery. You can book your spot  here

On view from 28 February to 4 April 2026 at Jecza Gallery Bucharest, the exhibition brings together a new body of sculptural works developed through extensive research across the former Soviet space.

Guided by the metaphor of the child as “soft wax,” Ilie examines how Soviet ideology transformed childhood into a total pedagogical environment — a vast “laboratory” that materialized not only in theory, but in architecture, design, and spatial structures. Her works reconstruct fragments of this ideological landscape in metal and ceramics, functioning simultaneously as replicas and critical reflections. Through geometric rigor and formal clarity, Laboratoriya reveals the tension between aesthetic purity and political function, between utopian promise and historical failure.
