The Gift is a performance carried out in 1973 and 1974 on the streets of Bucharest, in which the artist, holding an imaginary object, attempts to communicate with the casual audience. The ritual symbolism of the posture is explored, becoming at once synonymous with dialogue and mystery; it suggests an enigmatic present, a gift, or both. Confronted with oppressive politics and a climate of constant denunciation,
the experience gives rise to suspicious glances. The documentary dimension of this experience allows us to recreate the atmosphere of the time, acting as a veritable testimony.
