Jecza Gallery presents The Body in Performance at Paris Photo 2026, bringing together works by Mircea Cantor, Constantin Flondor, Ion Grigorescu, Iosif Király, Paul Neagu, Adina Pintilie and Dumitrița Răzlog. Taking place at the Grand Palais from 12 to 15 November, the presentation traces encounters between photography and bodily action across generations, from experimental practices of the late 1960s to contemporary explorations of intimacy and physical presence.

The selection considers how an action survives through an image, and how photography becomes a space in which the body can be observed, staged or transformed. Vintage photographic prints and records of performances enter into dialogue with lightboxes, altered Polaroids and images incorporated into everyday objects. Across these different forms, the relationship between a gesture and its photographic afterlife remains open to interpretation.

Paul Neagu’s works establish an expansive historical foundation for the presentation. Photographs and film stills associated with Collecting Merits – Street Performance I and II (1968), The Death of Actaeon (1973), Going Tornado – Performance (1974), Preparing Going Tornado (1975) and Blind Bite – performance I and II (1976) accompany examples from his Ramp works. Together, they foreground the role of movement and bodily experience within his artistic investigations.

Constantin Flondor’s Fire-Smoke / Confessions Performance (1983), presented through a group of vintage gelatin silver prints, brings the fleeting duration of an action into photographic sequence. Ion Grigorescu’s Casa Noastra I (1974), Superpositions (1978) and In the Bathroom (1982) offer a different register of experimentation, moving between the domestic setting, photographic layering and interventions on the image itself.

Iosif Király’s photographs from 1988 bring the body into relation with objects, masks and shadows. The selection includes Body with Metal Structure and Dried Fish, Moving Body with Shadow and Fish and Selfportrait with Mask and Shadow. Their staged encounters extend the presentation’s exploration of the photograph as a site of physical and perceptual experimentation.

Mircea Cantor is represented by C-prints from Sic Transit Gloria Mundi (2012), introducing a further perspective on the relationship between a performed gesture and its continuing presence as an image. Adina Pintilie’s The Anointing of Desire and The Third Body (both 2024/2026), presented as lightboxes, bring questions of embodied encounter into a luminous photographic form.

Dumitrița Răzlog’s contribution extends these concerns through intimate formats and material interventions. Polaroids from Deja Vu Series (2022–present) appear alongside I cavalli non tornano da soli a casa (2024), in which modelling clay is applied to the photographs. In Even the Stains Feel Tender Today (2025), a print on transparency film is combined with a towel rack, drawing the photographic image into the material setting of everyday life.

Presented within the Main Sector, The Body in Performance reflects Jecza Gallery’s sustained engagement with experimental artistic practices and their contemporary continuities.
